Total Service Engineering realizes “Use and Maintenance Manual” specifically selected for each kind of application (systems or single machines), both in civil and industrial environments.

Each machine and/or equipment must be furnished with its “Use and Maintenance Manual” , which describes the machine specification, indicating all the information necessary to guarantee a proper and safe use.

The “Use and maintenance manual”, is made in autonomy or in collaboration with the client, with the aim of realizing an understandable and user-friendly handbook, all enriched with images.

The firm guarantees the good quality of the “Use and maintenance manual”, which needs to have an aesthetically pleasing graphic and fulfill all the regulatory requirements as well as the user’s needs.

The contents of the “Use and maintenance manual” can be customized, but they must contain the following topics:

  • General information
  • Description of the machine
  • Technical specifications
  • Safety and accident prevention regulations
  • Transport and installation
  • Operation
  • Maintenance
  • Faults and remedies
  • Waste disposal


The analysis of the risks (Risk Assessment Document) is elaborated with the following concepts (see diagram):

– Determination of machine limits.
– Identification of the danger.
– Estimation of the risk and evaluation of the activities that reduce the entity.
– Evaluation of the residual risk and the gravity of the possible consequences.

Annex I to Machinery Directive 2006/42 / EC (implemented in Italy with Legislative Decree 17/2010) contains the “Essential health and safety requirements relating to the design and construction of machinery” which concerns the machine operation.

A machine must comply with all the requirements applicable to it. If this does not happen, the machine presents a risk for the operator and for all the people exposed..

Total Service Engineering analyses, in cooperation with the Client, the type of risk, the ways in which it can occur and its consequences for the operator and exposed personnel.
The Study then assesses whether every single essential requirement is “Compliant” or “Non-Compliant”, evaluating whether the solutions adopted by the designer have eliminated or reduced the risk presented.


Under the Machinery Directive 2006/42/CE (implemented in Italy with Legislative Decree 17/2010), in order to affix the CE marking, the handbook’s maker must make the Technical File reported in the Part A of Annex VII only for the products included in the field of application.

The Technical File (not to be confused with the User Manual) must prove the compliance of the machine with Essential health and safety requirements (EHSRs) – Annex I.

Total Service Engineering verifies and draws up the Technical File for the machines under the Machinery Directive 2006/42/CE (Annex VII, A).

The Technical File is drawn up in accordance with its needs, since it must be kept at its headquarters. Furthermore, it must always be available for the authorities’ consultations.. The Technical File is a collection of all the documents made during the design, construction and testing of the machine as following:

  • applied technical standards;
  • risk assessment document;
  • EC declaration of conformity;
  • instruction manual;
  • copy of the EC label;
  • drawings, calculation reports, diagrams, photos, functional descriptions and everything that can fully illustrate the machine and its components;
  • list of suppliers;
  • production control procedures;
  • testing procedures.
